Pre-GED Instructor - Rockford (full-time)

  • Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is seeking part-time Pre-GED Instructors.  The Pre-GED Instructor is responsible for instructing adults in a developmental learning program to ensure ability to enter GED programs. 

  • Job responsibilities include:
    • Plan and implement creative lessons built around students individual scores and prepare an individual learning and career plan.
    • Communicate constantly with Program Manager and Case Manager about the students’ needs.
    • Ability to effectively manage a classroom.
    • Ability to work year-round.
    • Ability to enter and complete documentation including student records.
    • Skilled in utilizing different teaching techniques.
    • Exude caring and passion for students’ success.
    • Experience with technology including SmartBoards and how to integrate into lessons.
    • Experience with teaching adults.
    • Show tolerance and flexibility in dealing with persons from disadvantaged social, economic and educational backgrounds.
    • Show respect for cultural differences.

  • The ideal candidate will have Bachelor’s Degree in Education, prefer State of Illinois Teaching License;
    demonstrated ability to work with individuals with barriers and understand and communicate with diverse groups; three-five years teaching experience preferred; the ability to motivate and assist individuals in learning; strong organizational skills required; and strong verbal and written communication skills along with basic computer navigation and word processing skills.

Corporate Donations Manager - Rockford (full-time)

  • Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois is seeking a Corporate Donations Manager.  The Corporate Donations Manager initiates and develops relationships with companies, educational institutions, and community organizations to increase donations and awareness of Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois.

  • Responsibilities include:
    • Cultivating partnerships in the community for donation drives, with a focus on corporations, schools, youth groups, faith communities, neighborhood associations and sports teams. 
    • Managing in-kind donations from local businesses. 
    • Developing relationships through a variety of mediums including face-to-face visits, phone calls, networking events, attending business events, and written communication.
    • Maintaining regular and consistent follow-up with community leads.
    • Innovating to provide solutions to potential donors through customizing the donation experience.
    • Managing all aspects of Goodwill donation drives from prospecting, sales, closing, implementation and acknowledgement.  Tracking all metrics and contacts.
    • Working closely with Goodwill’s warehouse team on scheduling trailers and attendants (as needed) for donation drives.  Exploring opportunities for volunteers at donation drive sites to attend trailers, or coordinates temporary staffing. 
    • Working closely with Goodwill’s marketing department to develop and improve donation related collateral including information for donation drives.  Working with Goodwill International and other Goodwill’s nationally on learning donation drive best practices and collateral ideas.
    • Working with the Director of Retail in creating and analyzing community donation goals. Monitoring goals throughout the year.
    • Meeting annual donation goals. Providing monthly reports on activity and outcomes.
    • Using research methods to determine the best industries and communities to target as donors.
    • Providing customer service to all donors through high quality inactions and proactive problem solving.
    • Preparing presentations and proposals using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
    • Exploring the feasibility and managing the process of picking up donations from homes in select zip codes. 
    • Exploring the feasibility of placing unattended donation bins in the community and manages their placement, process and pick-up with Goodwill’s warehouse and trucking operations.
    • Building and maintaining an effective quality working relationships with internal and external customers. Acting with customers in mind and dedicated to gaining their trust and meeting their expectations.
    • Working with warehouse and trucking to manage costs associated with donation drives.
    • Working with retail locations to identify items that will generate the most revenue.  Working with the Warehouse Manager to determine recycling lines that will generate the most revenue.
    • Performing work in a safe manner; evaluating concerns about working environments appropriately.

  • The ideal candidate will have Bachelor’s degree in business related field (preferred); three – five years experience of previous sales, marketing, relationship building or direct customer contact experience; must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive on company business; ability to set objectives and goals, break down work into process steps, measure performance against goals, evaluate results; ability to be effective in a variety of presentation settings, ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and marketing materials; ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks; a sense of urgency; ability to appropriately maintain confidentiality and professionalism; demonstrates high ethical practices with exceptional decision making abilities; and have functional use of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
